Sabathia

This article is based around how the weight of Sabathia will hold up during the duration of his 7 year contract. Sabathia signed a $161 million contract for the New York Yankees, becoming the highest paid pitcher in baseball. However, many critics have concerns over his health. Despite having never had an injury to his arm, CC logged nearly 500 innings in the last two seasons. Sabathia stands at 6 foot 7 inches and a whopping 309 pounds. Even though he has a rigorous offseason plan to keep in shape, some are concerned his weight will become a problem. Another injury concern is the knee. He puts so much weight in his knee that it might give at the tail end of the contract.
As a Yankee fan, I do admit my concern about this signing. First of all, he might be the most overrated pitcher in baseball. As dominate as he was in Milwaukee, most are easy to forget is numbers at the beginning of the season last year. As an Indian in 2008, CC was 6-8 with an ERA in the 5’s. Lifetime record of 117-73; good, but not impressed to the point where I would give him that contract, even if I did own the Yankees and had billions to spend. The inning situation doesn’t please me either. Sooner or later all of these innings will catch up to him. There’s a good chance he’ll op-out after 3 years of this contract too. I didn’t like that that clause was necessary for him to sign, it makes me doubt if he truly wants to be here. This is New York, the toughest city in the world to play sports because we DEMAND greatness. He has the chance to live up to expectations by delivering a title with other key additions like Burnett and Teixeira.

Manny, Dodgers agree to $45M deal

I really do wonder what other teams we're thinking in not getting in for Manny Rameriz. He is one of the best hitters in all of baseball. If I were the Giants I would have jumped out of my shoes to sign him to tip the scales in their favor. I understand that the economy is bad and some teams are scared. However, the Yankees are still spending money. George Steinbrenner once said you have to spend money to make money. Some of these other teams need to follow this advice.
